Freemasonry is a respected fraternity, but unfortunately, imposters promising riches, fame, or ties to secret societies like the “Illuminati” have become more common, both online and in real life.

Scammers may claim they can make you a 33rd-degree Mason for a fee or guarantee wealth and success.

These are blatant lies.

Authentic Masonic lodges never offer shortcuts or material rewards.

To avoid falling for these scams, always verify that a lodge is recognized by an officially sanctioned Grand Lodge, like the Grand Lodge of Florida. You can confirm a lodge’s legitimacy by visiting the Grand Lodge’s official website or by using their Lodge Search Tool. Any group asking for large sums of money upfront, or offering titles, fame, or wealth should raise immediate red flags.

While legitimate lodges, such as Eureka-North Shore, charge modest fees for degrees and have annual dues, these costs are transparent and directly support the lodge’s operations, charitable activities, and brotherhood. Unlike fraudulent organizations, we do not make false promises of quick success or secret knowledge. Real Masonic organizations provide a meaningful journey centered on personal growth, charity, and tradition.

If you're considering joining Freemasonry, take the time to research thoroughly. Contact recognized lodges to ask questions and get clear information on the membership process. Our Membership Development Committee at Eureka-North Shore is always available to help, answer any questions, and guide you through the proper steps.

As per Masonic principles, any group or individual claiming to be Masonic but not under the authority of a recognized Grand Lodge is considered clandestine, or illegitimate. Always ensure the lodge you’re interested in is legitimate. Real Freemasonry offers an authentic path of personal development and brotherhood—free from deception and false promises.

Joining a clandestine lodge carries significant consequences. Because these lodges lack recognition from legitimate Masonic authorities, membership in them can result in permanent exclusion from regular, recognized Freemasonry. This means you will be unable to participate in the global network of recognized lodges, time-honored traditions, charitable initiatives, and true Masonic Brotherhood.

At Eureka-North Shore, we appreciate your commitment to researching and verifying a lodge’s legitimacy before taking your first step into the Craft. Authentic Freemasonry offers a path of personal growth, meaningful relationships, and a tradition built on integrity—not empty promises. If you are ready to join a recognized and time-honored fraternity, reach out today and begin your Masonic journey with confidence.

In this episode of the Old Fashion Masonic Podcast, Worshipful Brother Daniel Sells III sits with Worshipful Brian Byrd and discusses his transition from a clandestine lodge to a recognized one, emphasizing the importance of Masonic regularity.
